How it all began.
In 1989, the Austrian Association of Municipalities launched its first own mouthpiece with the „kommunal-journal“. In 1993, publisher Walter Zimper took over the magazine and shaped it into the official organ of the Association of Municipalities – to this day, KOMMUNAL enjoys unique trust among mayors, municipal administrators and council members.
With our subsidiary Zimper Media GmbH in Berlin, we open up the German and European municipal market – for partners who think beyond regional borders.
Two worlds – Kommunal & Bau: trade media, events, Kommunalbedarf.at and Campus.
30 years of KOMMUNAL – a media house spanning print, digital, newsletter and events.
Expansion to Germany – the „KOMMUNAL Deutschland“ concept (Zimper Media, Berlin).
Michael Zimper takes over the management; launch of the Kommunalbedarf.at platform.
„Schule & Sportstätte“ expands the media portfolio.
KOMMUNAL is published monthly; the publishing house relocates to Vienna.
New layout, growing circulation – and the first municipal trade fair.
Walter Zimper sen. takes over the magazine; it becomes the official organ of the Association of Municipalities.
The Austrian Association of Municipalities launches the „kommunal-journal“ – the origin of KOMMUNAL.
Publishing roots: Walter Zimper sen. founds the Lower Austrian magazine publishing house.
